Traveling to photograph a newborn| Richmond, VA| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Newborn & Family Photographer

Here's a sneak peek of beautiful baby G. Her parents flew me out to Nebraska for her newborn session. It was pretty cool to travel to Colorado and rent a car. I got to see Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. A little back story, a client who used to live in Richmond then moved to Nebraska told a friend who loved my work and flew me out. Little Miss G was just perfect! She was so tiny about 5lbs and we got to use a lot of the parents props since i wasn’t able to travel with a lot.

She's simply the sweetest thing ever!

I’m located in Short Pump, VA and have specialized in Maternity, Newborn, baby and family photography for over 11 years. It was an absolute pleasure to travel to photograph a newborn.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography| Richmond, VA| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Newborn & Family Photographer

Welcome to the world little one. We did a mixture of posed and lifestyle with her session. I came to her home so to make the family more comfortable and for the lifestyle portion of the session. Big brother was so great with his sister considering he was under 2 yrs old.

I don’t charge extra to come to your home at this time. There is no travel time, no packing and no taking the baby out. The images are real and tell a story. For some clients, this moves them to tears. My job is to keep you calm, give you an amazing experience and capture your family in an artistic way that you will treasure for generations. I am here for you. Whichever way is better for your family, is better for me.

This first family had this amazing basement with stunning natural light, It was a dream for any photographer, plus having a beautiful momma and baby made the session even better.

G. was 8 days old when i traveled to VA beach for his newborn session. I photographed his older brother a few years prior. I love when i get to photograph families as they grow their families.

The family was so adoable during the session. Big Brother wasn’t that interested in baby brother but i did manage to get a few great shots of them together. I took some posed portraits of the family and siblings then we took a few lifestyle images as well to round out this adorable session.

For the first half of the newborn session G. was wide awake and eager to show me his gorgeous eyes that sparkled just like his mothers! In all my years of photographing newborns the ones where they look straight into my lens has to be one of my all-time favorites. When a newborn baby looks right at you with eyes as big as dinner plates, you can’t help but wonder what they’re thinking about and what beautiful things they will see in their lifetime. Getting to be part of that world is something I will never get tired of experiencing.

Capturing parents with their babies is so important to me – it’s a tangible memory you’ll never want to forget, and one you’ll cherish as your little one grows into a bigger version of themselves. That’s why newborn photography is so special to me, and why I absolutely adore my job as a photographer (which is more like a passion than work!). I’m essentially creating a blueprint for your life with your child, and you’ll have tons of stunning images to look back on to remember the sweet moments you spent, holding your newborn in your arms, gushing over how much you love them.

These are just a few of the images from G. gallery.

Ava Newborn| Everything Cream & Pink| Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photography

If you’re a parent, I bet you remember what it was like just after your little one was born. That feeling of wanting to hold your baby close, even when others offered to give you a break. You weren’t ready for a break just yet. You could stare at those sweet, perfect features for hours. And when you did take a break or put baby down to rest, you were eager for a few more snuggles even though you desperately needed rest yourself.

I know the feeling. I’ve had three babies. And no amount of tiredness could keep me from gazing at those tiny toes and precious faces. I have always taken pictures of babies and became a doula first that is what t sparked my desire to become a newborn photographer. I wanted to preserve this fleeting time as brilliantly as possible, and I wanted to give other families that same gift.

A. parents contacted me well before her due date to schedule a newborn session as soon as possible after her arrival. They weren’t after any fancy props or themed sets. They just wanted to capture that perfect newborn bliss. She is their firstborn, and they wanted to take in every minute of this magical experience. Everything went smoothly, and we were able to get sweet A. scheduled before she was 10 days old. I traveled to their home and brought the studio to them. This is an option for some people. The younger the baby the more likely we are to get those snugly poses.

We kept it simple just as they requested adding in just a few pink accents and florals for their dainty angel. A. slept the entire session without making a peep and was a perfect model! I could not get enough of her beautiful little lashes, button nose, and precious lips. What a sweetie!

Welcome home, little princess! I can’t wait to watch you grow.

The Deluxe Newborn session can take place in your home or in my home studio. I bring all the props and outfits to you. This is a great benefit since you may not be up to leaving your house.

Meet Asa, This little guy was just so calm for his almost newborn session . He was 1 month old and just so adorable. He loved to be swaddled and fell asleep but once the swaddle came off he was awake again but just looking around. I did get a few images of him sound asleep. What a handsome little man with that full head of hair! Enjoy!

The "Froggy" posed explained| Jacki G. Photography| Newborn & Family Photographer| Richmond, VA

So in the ever growing world of newborn photography there are zillion poses and positions we photographers persuade our gorgeous models to wriggle into to achieve the cute images that are so popular, but there is one that seems to be the holy grail of many photographers...the frog pose.

2016-01-04_0024.jpg

lts a divisive pose, with some loving it, and some hating it. But whatever your opinion of it, there is one thing that is vital to remember. No baby can hold that pose on his own. Fact. So, great care must be taken to ensure no baby is harmed or upset when doing it. Personally, l refuse to accept the stance that in the right hands a baby will balance. l don't care.....no, l REALLY don't care! l don't care if you can get a baby to balance in the pose.....letting go is dangerous!

So how do l get the images l do without ever letting go? Well, firstly l needed to know l could be skilled enough in Photoshop to allow me to merge the necessary images together. Then l had to know l could persuade the baby to settle happily in the necessary position. l didn't even attempt the frog pose until l was over two years into my career. l was not prepared to ever try it until l could be sure l could do so safely.

Not every baby will do the frog pose. Part of doing it well and safely is developing the skills needed to know which will, and not trying it with those who wont. That all comes from reading each baby. They are all different, and a huge part of what l do involves getting to know them a little bit, and if l'm honest, loving them a little too.

Once l think a baby will do it, l ask the parents if they'd like me to try. As l said, not everyone even likes the resulting image. l wouldn't ever do it without asking. So each time its done, the parents are helping or an assistant is helping hold the baby.  You will see that each frog pose l have done is of a baby happy, relaxed, comfortable and sound asleep. No matter what pose l do with a baby l am gently moving arms and legs, hands and fingers, gently moving and using lot of gentle motions to get baby to leave them where l want for the images. This pose is no different. l gently move baby until l am happy baby is relaxed and settled. lf l try and baby doesn't want to do it, l don't push it. That's totally ok, and sometimes l try and then don't get the pose, even though l thought baby would.

Once baby is in position, l have my assistant or parent gently support baby with one hand and take the images. then they hold baby wrists with the other, moving the position of their  hand in between. They NEVER let go.  hands are on baby at ALL times. You can see the two images l take below, and how l then use them to create the finished image.

You can see that even as hands are  moved, baby remained totally relaxed and asleep.

So, if you love the frog pose, and would like your photographer to do it for your baby, please don't be afraid to ask them if they do it as a COMPOSITE. They'll know what you mean. Ask them to show you images like the ones above. lts your baby. PLEASE don't assume that just because they claim to be safe that they are.

The industry isn't regulated, and probably never will be, so its important that you know how to keep your baby safe during the session, and especially when doing this very clever, but very skilled pose.

“Enjoy the little things in life, Because one day you will look back And realize they were the big things.”

Newborn sessions hold a special place in our heart. The ridiculous amount of love and happiness that fills the home always brings back a flood of memories of our own special time. There’s nothing more exciting than a brand new bundle of joy, and despite the lack of sleep and endless diaper changes, everyone is in awe of this sweet little bundle of joy.
